DENTAL IMPLANTS
Dental Implants eliminate the need for altering tooth structure, which is required when using fixed dental bridges. They also eliminate the need to wear a removable, partial or complete denture. Our dental implant procedure is a perfect way for our Minneapolis clients to replace missing teeth with a permanent solution
Dr. Cole Brenny offers the option of dental implants without needing a referral to an oral surgeon or specialist. Dr. Brenny has acquired advanced training in dental implants at the Minneapolis V.A. and has graduated from the prestigious Misch International Implant Institute. The Misch Institute provides possibly the most comprehensive and in-depth training available to dentists in the area of dental implants.
In addition to Dr. Brenny's training and expertise, The Ivory Dental Group has access to some of the most advanced Xray technology: The 3-Dimensional Cone Beam Imaging. With this technology we can optimally evaluate bone levels and density, and determine the location of the sinus and other vital anatomy to minimize complications that can otherwise arise in the placement of dental implants.

THE DENTAL IMPLANT PROCESS
Why would one want to persue dental implants as a tooth replacement option? There are usually a number of possible reasons:
Tooth loss due to cavities, fracture or failed root canal treatment
Loss of an existing dental bridge
Congenitally missing teeth and/or retained baby teeth
Truama
No teeth (Patient would like to replace missing teeth with implant bridge or implant denture attachements
Whatever the reason, dental implants are usaully a great tooth replacement option. There are limitations of course, but if there is a missing space or tooth, implants should considered during the planning phase. This phase involves a consult or exam, xrays and an evaluation by Dr Brenny or Dr Morse. We will evauate why the previous tooth was lost, how long ago it was lost, and what your long term goals are for replacing the missing tooth.
Implants are often my first choice because they have a very high success rate (over 95%), they are aesthetic and they don’t involve having to trim adjecent teeth…like is required for a dental bridge option. Often, the limiting factor for implant placement is existing bone volume. I liken an implant to a fence post…you need “dirt” and support to hold the post in the ground. The bone is the dirt. If the tooth has been missing for more that 2 years the likelyhood of bone deterioration or resorbtion is high. Without the origional tooth maintaining the bone support, the ridge or bone disolves away. If too much bone disolves away, there will not be adequate bone to hold the implant tooth in place. In these cases a bone graft will likey be needed before implants placment is possible. So, if the planning phase is complete, and you are indeed ready to start the implant process…what is next?
